This day went very well. Consider, that you need to take a ferry to get to Spain. The ferry goes quite frequently, every hour or so. Also be aware of the time difference between Portugal and Spain.

I actually wanted to ride directly to Chipiona. Komoot said this was possible. From Matalascañas the only way is through the sand next to the beach/ water. This was with my luggage and bike no option. Also, you need to take a ferry to cross. My information was, that the ferry only operates in season. Since I did the trip in November, I didn’t want to risk 15km through the sand and back. Therefore, I decided to take the bus from Matalascañas to Sevilla and from there to Chipiona. I had to bribe the bus driver from Matalascañas to let me into the bus with my bike. From Sevilla, it was no problem to take the bike.

The ride is actually fun to do, if you have the proper bike. It takes you off-rode quite a lot and the speed declines accordingly. Also, the navigation sometimes sends you on quite dangerous crossings. Be careful!

I actually wanted to cycle to Gibraltar. I was send into parts where I had to push the bike and/or take long detours due to impossible to ride sections. The komoot track wanted to send me through a field of taurus, which was too dangerous for my taste. I decided to stop in Tarifa and take the bus to Gibraltar. Be aware, the bus stops before the border and you have to walk/ cycle to cross.
