Cycling through East Germany

Setting off from Berlin, I eagerly pedal towards Lübbenau, a gem nestled in the Spreewald biosphere reserve. This lush landscape teems with winding waterways, inviting exploration by boat or foot. Lübbenau’s rich Slavic culture adds depth to its charm, with vibrant traditions celebrated amidst picturesque surroundings.

Leaving Lübbenau behind, my journey leads southward to Görlitz, renowned for its Renaissance architecture. Gothic churches and Baroque palaces adorn the cityscape, offering a glimpse into its storied past. Wandering Görlitz’s cobblestone streets feels like stepping back in time, immersed in centuries of history and cultural heritage.

Crossing into Poland, I pedal towards Gubin, a town steeped in German-Polish history. Its riverside setting and blend of architectural styles reflect centuries of shared heritage. Exploring Gubin’s streets reveals a tapestry of cultural influences, from Gothic churches to charming town squares. Each corner holds a story waiting to be discovered.

Homeward bound, I reflect on the diversity of landscapes and experiences encountered on my journey. From tranquil waterways to historic cityscapes, each stop has left its mark. As I pedal back to Berlin, I carry memories of adventure and discovery, grateful for the rich tapestry of sights and sounds that define this unforgettable cycling odyssey.
