Short Description

Embarking on a cycling odyssey from Rome to Cagliari, my journey unveiled the diverse splendors of Sardinia in seven exhilarating days. From the historic Michelangelo Fortress in Civitavecchia to the red-rocked charm of Isola Rossa, each day held new wonders. Sassari revealed its cultural treasures, while Bosa showcased prehistoric Nuraghen and handcrafted coral traditions. Torre dei Corsari mesmerized with sand dunes and ancient temples, leading to Iglesias, steeped in mining history. Culminating in Cagliari’s historic Castello and Poetto Beach, this adventure seamlessly blended scenic landscapes, rich history, and cultural discoveries, creating an unforgettable tapestry of Sardinia’s allure.

Due to bad weather, I needed to skip a part, it marked as not ridden.

Started the tour with a quick round through Rome and checking of another country (Vatican!), yay!

Cycling in Rome is not as stressful as it sounds, but it’s not the biggest fun either. In the suburbs, there were a lot of areas with massive amounts of trash next to the street. Not nice at all. Sadly, this seems to be still a thing in quite some parts in Italy.

I cycled into a massive head wind and it became worse because the wind turned into a storm and my ferry to Sardinia got canceled and all other ferries were not operating for 14hours. Luckily, I could change into another ferry and sleep there.

Due to the heavy storm, I decided it’s better to take a bus and shorten the trip, which was a good idea. 30km took me almost two hours and I had twice the amount descending than climbing.

It was hard to stay on the bike, to say the least.

The storm finally passed by, still, I had a massive head wind. The itself was nice, but nothing extra special.

What an amazing day! Def. one of the best days on a bike in my life. Wonderful weather, great roads, smooth tarmac (most of the time), almost no traffic and an incredible view. Just amazing! Highly recommended!

I started the day with an amazing view and, for the first time there was no wind. Stunning!

The climb into Iglesias is also a lot of fun that starts with a nice valley. I enjoyed it a lot.

Sadly, the last day was not so great. The wind came back. This time from another direction which meant head wind again. But also, the landscape became a bit dull and to cycle in the area of Cagliari is a bit tricky with a lot of traffic. Past the city, it became better again.
